Whakarua Kōpito is a significant pattern from Te Whare Pora, the House of Weaving, often found in tūrapa (tukutuku) panels. It symbolizes strength, protection, and unity. The two diamond shapes, signifies strength and resilience and facing things head on.

In this artwork, the mānuka flower, a symbol of resilience and healing, is arranged in a whakarua kōpito pattern. The various stages of the flower's bloom represent the cyclical nature of life and the enduring spirit of the Māori people.

The multiple images of the mānuka flower, arranged in a grid formation, evoke the image of a collective march, a visual representation of the many hikoi to Parliament. This aligns with the pattern's associated meanings of strength and facing things head on.

By combining these tohu, this artwork aims to inspire strength, unity, and resilience in the face of adversity. It is a call to action, urging us to stand together and protect our future generations.
